Thinking about...everything

Sono passati quasi 2 mesi dal mio arrivo qua in Turchia...sembra passato un secolo da quel 4 giugno e sento che qualcosa in me sta cambiando. Questa esperienza mi sta cambiando, in positivo, naturalmente. L'unica cosa di cui ero sicura prima della mia partenza era il fatto che avrei vissuto un'esperienza unica, che mi avrebbe resa consapevole di acuni lati della mia personalità che neanche sapevo di avere ed è esattamente ciò che sta succedendo.Credo che le esperienze all'estero, in generale, siano indispensabili proprio al fine di riscoprire qualcosa di se stessi che non si sapeva di possedere. Forse è la routine quotidiana che annebbia e sopisce alcuni lati del nostro carattere? L'abitudine, ecco cos'è...l'abitudine a fare giorno dopo giorno a ripetizione le stesse cose, vedere le stesse persone e gli stessi posti... Questo, da un lato, ci fa sentire sicuri, confortati dalla consapevolezza di avere punti di riferimento precisi ma, dall'altro lato, questo senso di conforto e di sicurezza non fa altro che annebbiare lo spirito di iniziativa e di creatività che è dentro di noi, la voglia di fare e di provare cose nuove senza nessun timore.
Ora, dopo aver vissuto a lungo questo limbo d'indecisione tra il restare e il partire, ho acquisito una nuova consapevolezza. Ho preso la decisione più giusta per me, forse ho aspettato fin troppo prima di decidermi a partire ma quello che sto realizzando è che ne vale la pena.
In modo particolare, questo mese di luglio è stato un mese molto intenso in cui oltre ad aver trascorso momenti di svago piacevolissimi, ho anche avuto la possibilità di imparare a gestire nuove responsabilità che mai prima d'ora mi erano state affidate. Ho riscoperto, innanzitutto, il piacere di condivisione che si era un po' perso a causa della vita frenetica e tendenzialmente individualista che conducevo in Italia. Inoltre, le mia capacità comunicative stanno decisamente migliorando, specialmente il mio livello di inglese e la capacità di parlare in pubblico, davanti ad un gruppo di persone. Obbiettivi per il futuro? Imparare ad esprimermi bene anche con la lingua turca, impresa ardua, ma non impossibile!
Certo, non mancano i momenti in cui pensando all'Italia e, in particolare, agli amici e alla famiglia, provo un senso di nostalgia e malinconia. Ogni tanto sento davvero la mancanza delle chiacchierate nella mia lingua madre (magari davanti a un bel aperitivo;)) e delle  belle serate trascorse con le amiche, ci sono momenti in cui vorrei averli tutti qua con me a condividere insieme ciò che sto vivendo io. Sono sicura rimarrebbero piacevolmente colpiti dalla bellezza di questi posti e di questa cultura.
Io qua mi trovo benissimo, la gente è solare e se ti trovi in difficoltà c'è sempre qualcuno pronto ad aiutarti, questo è ciò che caratterizza in positivo le popolazioni mediterranee e che accomuna la cultura italiana a quella turca. Ma vogliamo parlare del modo di guidare dei turchi e del traffico?!? Ecco, questa è una componente non del tutto positiva, diciamo che le regole del codice stradale sono un optional per i turchi al volante! Forse anche il senso dell'organizzazione (come in Italia) non è dei migliori ma va bene così, preferisco l'essere un po' fuori dagli schemi all'essere troppo inquadrati!
Insomma, la mia esperienza SVE procede alla grande, molte delle aspettative che avevo prima di partire si stanno concretizzando anzi, sto vivendo cose che vanno al di là di ciò che mi ero immaginata alla partenza. Per tutte queste ragioni mi sento di consigliare lo SVE a tutti i ragazzi desiderosi di vivere un'esperienza di lungo periodo all'estero, non ne rimarranno delusi di certo e sono sicura torneranno a casa con un bagaglio pieno di momenti indimenticabili!


After almost 2 months from my arrival here in Turkey, it's time to make some considerations...It seems passed such a long time from that 4th of June and I feel like something inside of me's changing. This experience makes me feel different, in a positive way, of course. The only one thing I was sure before to leave my Country was the fact that I would live a unique experience, that would make me aware about some sides of my personality that I didn't even know I have. And this is exactly what's going on.
I believe that all the experiences abroad are useful for everybody to figure out something about our own self that we couldn't even imagine. Maybe is our daily routine that soothes some sides of our personality? Habit, that's what it is...The habit to do day by day the same things, seeing the same people and places.
This makes us feel comfortable and safe about having definite points of reference but, on the other hand, this sense of safety can suppress the spirit of initiative and creativity we have inside of us, and also the will to do and try new things without any fears.
Well, after living for a long time this kind of limbo about my  indecision to leave or to stay I finally acquired a new awareness. I took the right decision for me, maybe I've waited too much before to leave but what I'm realizing now is that it worth it! It always worth it!
Especially this month of July has been such an intense month for me in which I spent lots of enjoyable free time moments but I've also had the chance to learn how to manage new responsabilities that I've never had before! First of all I figured out the spirit of sharing with others that I've almost  lost because of  frenetic lifestyle and individualism I used to live in Italy. And my communications skills are improving especially the way I speak english and to talk in public, in front a group of people.
Goals for future? Being able to comunicate and understand better Turkish language! It's not easy but not so impossible!
For sure, there are some moments when, thinking about my Country and especially thinking about friends and family, I feel nostalgic and melancholic.  Sometimes I really miss spending time with my friends, talking with them in my mothertongue language and there are some moments that I would like they were here, living together what I've been living. I'm sure thay would be positively impressed by these beautiful places and this beautiful culture.
I feel good here cause people are joyful and helpful and this is what characterized in a positive way all the mediterranean Countries, common elements between turkish and italian culture.
But what about the way to drive of turkish people??? This is not really a positive thing about turkish culture cause we can say the road rules are optional for turkish people, rules doesn't exist for turkish drivers and traffic is  so caothic! Also the sense of organisation is not the best one (like in Italy) but It's ok, I prefer people a bit out of schemes than people too much careful about following certain rules and standards.
So, my EVS experience is going great, many of expectations I had before to leave are becoming real, better to say that many things I've been living here I didn't even imagine before my departure.
For all these reasons I feel to recommend this experience to all youngsters who wish to do a long term experience abroad, for sure they will not get disappointed and they will come back home with their baggage full of unforgettable moments!

Italian speaking club and more...

Ieri si è tenuto, nella sede dell'associazione Bursanat, il primo incontro con i partecipanti al corso per apprendere l'italiano di cui io sono la mediatrice (sono l'unica volontaria italiana..)
Il corso si terrà ogni mercoledì e venerdì della settimana dalle 17 alle 19.
Per me è una bella opportunità ma anche una sorta di sfida in quanto non sono un insegnante professionista e soprattutto, non ho mai avuto la possibilità di insegnare la mia lingua madre a degli stranieri in un Paese straniero... Ma l'esperienza Sve prevede anche questo e quale modo migliore per condividere le mie conoscenze e far conoscere la mia cultura italiana a degli stranieri se non attraverso un corso di lingua italiana?
Ieri hanno partecipato al corso una decina di ragazzi e io ero veramente contenta ed entusiasta nel vedere l'interesse e la curiosità che molti ragazzi hanno nei confronti non solo della lingua ma proprio della cultura italiana nel suo insieme! Non mi aspettavo un riscontro così positivo e mi sono dovuta ricredere!
Non male come primo incontro ma, spero, nei prossimi giorni, di migliorare e rendere l'apprendimento sempre più piacevole e coinvolgente.


Yesterday we had the first meeting with participants to italian speaking club here in Bursanat Association and I am the moderator (of course, I'm the only one who speaks italian here).
The course will be there each wendesday and friday from 17 to 19.
This is a great opportunity  for me but also like a challenge cause I'm not a professional teacher and I've never have the chance to teach my mothertongue to foreign people in a foreign Country. But Evs experience is also this and I think this is the best way to share my knowledge and to get foreign people know much better not just about italian language but also about italian culture.
Yesterday there were a group of about 10 guys and I was very glad and excited to see how many guys are interested and curious about italian culture! I didn't expect that also because italian language  is not so easy to learn instead I  changed my idea ;)!  Not bad to be the first meeting but I hope, in next days, to get better and to make learning more enjoyable.

Ci tengo a precisare che il corso di italiano è solo una delle numerose attività che l'associazione propone come, ad esempio, l'english speaking club che si tiene 2 volte alla settimana e al quale partecipano 2 gruppi di persone in base al loro livello di conoscenza della lingua inglese. Nel corso per i "principianti" si propongono attività per ampliare il vocabolario e migliorare le capacità comunicative. In quello,invece, cui partecipano coloro che hanno già una buona padronanza della lingua inglese solitamente si discute e ci si confronta su un argomento proposto dai moderatori (Alì e Oznur). Inoltre, ogni lunedì vi è il corso di fotografia (vedi foto qui sotto).

Super weekend!

Questo è stato uno dei più favolosi weekend che ho vissuto da quando sono qui.
Partenza ore 5 della mattina di sabato 7 luglio da Gorukle.
Viaggio abbastanza lungo (circa 3/4 ore di macchina) ma piacevole nonostante fossimo tutti ancora un po' assonnati avendo dormito solo 3 ore...
Prima tappa: spiaggia di Oren! Che bello vedere e respirare il profumo del mare finalmente ;)!
Appena arrivati, colazione sempre e rigorosamente "alla turca" e con questo intendo dire a base di tè, pane, marmellata, burro, vari formaggi, pomodori, uova. Per i turchi il tè è l'equivalente del nostro caffè nel senso che bevono il tè tanto quanto noi  italiani siamo abituati a bere il caffè e, soprattutto, per la colazione bere il tè è d'obbligo.
Dopo aver decisamente recuperato tutte le energie ci siamo tuffati subito in mare anche perchè era veramente caldo...l'acqua del mare,al contrario, era gelida ma pulitissima..
Siamo rimasti lì un paio d'ore poi, abbiamo proseguito il nostro itinerario verso Ayvalik, un'altra splendida località di mare..
Ora, non ricordo esattamente il nome di tutte le località visitate anche perchè in 2 giorni ne abbiamo visitati diversi e le fotografie descrivono molto meglio delle parole ciò che abbiamo vissuto.
L'idea iniziale era quella di dormire accampati in macchina il sabato notte ma, fortunatamente, un amico di Emre ci ha gentilmente ospitato nella sua casa al mare così la sera,dopo aver vagato tutto il giorno tra spiagge varie e isole e dopo aver ammirato uno splendido tramonto sul mare, siamo andati a dormire a casa sua esausti ma contenti!
La mattina dopo siamo andati in visita ad una località turistica di montagna Akçay, famosa soprattutto per le cascate. Posto semplicemente splendido!
Nel pomeriggio siamo tornati per un'ultima nuotata verso la spiaggia di Oren prima di rientrare a Gorukle.
Un weekend intenso e divertente ..sarebbero ancora tante le cose da raccontare ma per ora mi limito a lasciare che parlino le foto...


That was one of the most amazing weekend I spent since when I've been here.
Leaving at 5 am on saturday 7th of july from Gorukle.
Trip was quite long (about 3/4 hours by car) but enjoyable even though we all were still sleepy cause we slept just 3 hours that night.
First stop: Oren's beach. What a wonderful feeling to see and breathe the good smell of the sea finally!!!
Just arrived, turkish breakfast time and when I say turkish breakfast I mean with tea,eggs,jam,bread,tomatoes and different kind of cheese! For turkish people tea is a must especially in breakfast time, they used to drink tea as much as  italian drink coffee.
After that we went to swim cause it was very hot and on the contrary the water was freezed but sooo clean!
We stayed there about 2 hours then we went to our next stop in Ayvalik, another wonderful seaside place. Well, I can't remember exactly all the names of places that we visited cause in 2 days we visited so many places and  pics can describe  better than words what we lived during those beautiful days.
Our idea was to sleep in car on saturday night but luckily Emre's friend kindly invited us to stay in his summer house. So, at night, after we went around many places and after seeing a beautiful sunset on the sea we went to sleep exhausted but happy!
On sunday morning we decided to go visiting a famous mountain place called Akçay, famous especially for waterfalls. Place simply amazing!
In the afternoon we went back to Oren, the first beach we went when we arrived, for the last swimming before to go back to Gorukle.
It's been such an intense and enjoyable weekend! I would have many things still to tell but now I will let pics talk for me...

Tarkan concert

Ieri, giovedì 5 luglio, mi sono messa d'accordo con i ragazzi per andare a vedere il concerto di Tarkan che ha avuto luogo nei pressi di Kulturpark nel centro della città di Bursa.
Tarkan è uno dei cantanti pop turchi più apprezzati e conosciuti, specialmente dalle ragazze ma non solo ;).. Un suo singolo in versione inglese ha avuto successo anche in Italia negli anni '90. Così, spinta dalla curiosità e dalla voglia di accrescere il mio bagaglio di conoscenze sulla cultura musicale turca (che è immensa) ho deciso di andare...

Yesterday, on thursday 5th of July, I agreed with other guys to go to Tarkan concert located near Kulturpark in the city centre.
Tarkan is one of the most famous popular singers here in Turkey. One of his song in english version was very famous in Italy too in '90s. So I was very curious and wanted to know more about turkish music culture and I decided to go...

Arrivati là, come immaginavo, c'era una folla immensa di persone e il concerto è iniziato prima delle 21 con un altro famoso cantante turco... ci siamo divertiti un sacco!


When we came there, as I imagined, there was such a  huge crowd of people and concert started before 21 with another famous turkish singer....we had really so much fun!!!

La settimana precedente ero stata a un altro concerto, all'interno di Kulturpark, di un altrettanto famoso artista turco Fatih Erkoç...dico artista in questo caso, perchè olre ad essere un bravissimo cantante è anche un eccellente musicista...Durante il suo concerto,infatti, ha cantato non solo le sue storiche canzoni turche ma si  è anche esibito con chitarra elettrica e acustica e piano...veramente un gran bel concerto!
Non è possibile fare un confronto tra i due perchè sono molto diversi ma entrambi sono stati carichissimi e pieni di energia! La cultura musicale qua in Turchia, come ho detto in precedenza, è immensa, ovvero comprende una vasta gamma di artisti... La musica è un elemento fondamentale che caratterizza la cultura turca, un elemento di aggregazione e di unione...La musica è ovunque...è nelle persone, per le quali è sempre un buon momento per cantare e danzare e divertirsi insieme...

Last week I went to another concert, in Kulturpark, of another famous turkish artist,  Fatih Erkoç...I said "artist" because he's not just a good singer but he's also an excellent musician, he knows how to play  all the instruments.. During his concert he sang his famous songs but he has also played electric and acoustic guitar and piano! It was really an enjoyable concert!
It's not possible to compare those two singers cause they're different but they were both sooo energetic!!
Music culture here in Turkey, as I said before, is huge, I mean that includes many different artists..Music is one of the main components that characterizes turkish culture, an aggregation and union's element.. Music here is everywhere, it's inside of people, for which it's always a good moment to sing and dance and have e good time together...

Turkish Wedding

Sabato 30 giugno ho avuto l'opportunità di partecipare ad un matrimonio "alla turca".
Si è svolto nella sala congressi di un edificio di recente costruzione in cui le principali autorità del comune di Bursa svolgono solitamente le proprie attività lavorative. L'edificio, proprio perchè di recente costruzione, ha una struttura moderna ed è immenso! Si trova nel cuore della città e l'ampia sala congressi viene spesso utilizzata per meeting, feste e cerimonie matrimoniali.

On Saturday 30 of June I had the opportunity to participate to a "Tukish Wedding" ceremony.
It was in the congress hall inside a brand new building where the main authorities of Bursa's city usually work.  It is such a huge building with a modern structure because of its newly built.
It's located in Bursa city centre and the big congress hall  is often used for meeting and different kind of celebrations.

Let's dance!!! I also tried to dance the typical turkish dance but with not a good success ;) anyway I'll practice and I will learn better!!!

A fine serata avrei dovuto affrontare un'ora di metro da sola per raggiungere Gorukle dal momento che gli altri abitano tutti in centro. Così Hatice, una collega di Sertaç che lavora come graphic designer presso il consiglio comunale di Bursa, mi ha gentilmente invitata a dormire a casa sua, o meglio a casa dei suoi.

Non mi aspettavo l'invito e inizialmente ho esitato anche perchè non volevo essere di disturbo ma poi ho pensato che sarebbe stata una bella occasione per conoscere meglio la loro cultura, il loro stile di vita..in fondo anche questo fa parte dell'esperienza SVE, quindi ho accettato con entusiasmo! Saliti in macchina di Hatice rimango stupita quando mi accorgo che questa ragazza dall'aria così dolce e delicata mette su un cd dei metallica misto a musica gotica! Così si parte verso casa sua con la musica dei metallica ad alto volume...chi l'avrebbe mai detto? Questa ragazza dietro quell'aria così tranquilla e pacata nasconde un mondo fatto di musica gotica e di vero talento artistico! 

Arrivate a casa sua sono stata accolta davvero molto bene dai suoi nonostante la difficoltà di comunicazione dovuta al  fatto che non so ancora bene la lingua turca ma ho messo in pratica quel poco che sapevo e son riuscita a farmi capire, perlomeno a presentarmi ;)!

Dopo una chiacchierata con Hatice in balcone siamo andate a dormire...è stata una bellissima serata!!!

Il giorno seguente, domenica 1 luglio, dopo un' abbondante colazione alla turca siamo andate in macchina verso la via che porta al monte Uludag e ci siamo fermate in una delle caffetterie della zona ad ammirare lo splendido panorama... Pausa caffè/tè e via di nuovo verso il centro città a camminare tra i bazar aperti come turisti.

Nel pomeriggio siamo andate in uno dei più grandi centri commerciali della città e verso sera sono tornata a Gorukle stanca ma felice! 

At the end of the night I should go back to Gorukle by metro by myself  cause all the others live in the city centre. So Hatice, a Sertaç's colleague who works as graphic designer for the Bursa city council, kindly asked me if I would to stay at her home. In a first time I hesitated cause she told me she lives with her parents so I would not to disturb but then I thought It would be a great chance to know more about turkish lifestyle and this is also part of an EVS experience so I accepted with enthusiasm.

When we went on Hatice's car I was impressed because she listened a metallica's cd! I didn't expect that becuse she looks so sweet and lovely and I was very surprised to know she likes listening metal and gothic music ;)!

When we arrived at her home her parents were very kind with me despite the languages barriers but I tried to practice my little turkish and at least I was able to introduce myself  and thank them for the hospitality. 

Later Hatice and me had a conversation on her balcony and then we went to sleep.

The follwing day, on sunday, we decided to go by car along the way for Uludag Mountain and we had a coffee/tea break in a bar where there was a wonderful view of all the city!

After we walked around the city centre like tourists and then we went to a shopping mall.

In the evening I came back to Gorukle tired but happy :)...
